An OBS poll overlay for Twitch and other streams
Paste one URL into an OBS Browser source and your audience poll appears as a transparent overlay on your scene. There is no plugin and nothing to install.
It does not matter where OBS is sending the stream — Twitch, YouTube or anywhere else, the setup is the same. Viewers scan the QR code or tap the link in chat and vote from their phone.
Adding the overlay to OBS
- Create an event and copy the URL under “Place this in OBS” in the console
- In OBS, press “+” under Sources, choose Browser, paste the URL and set it to 1920 × 1080
- Clear “Shutdown source when not visible” and “Refresh browser when scene becomes active”
- Place and size the chart by dragging it in the event editor’s demo. Save, and the overlay in OBS updates without a reload
- Use “Rehearse” in the console to cast a test vote and watch the numbers move in OBS
Transparency needs no extra steps: the page has no background colour, so OBS alpha-composites it. Do not add a chroma key.
OBS 28.0 or later is required.
Where an OBS poll overlay fits
- You want the chart in one corner of the frame, over your gameplay or camera, not covering it
- You switch scenes a lot and want the latest numbers there the moment you come back
- You want a look that matches your stream: 5 themes and 3 chart types (bar, line, pie)
- You want a two-way tap battle where the side with more taps wins (multi-tap mode, paid plans only)
- Subscriber-only streams: let the people watching vote (you make the stream itself subscriber-only)
Livote cannot check whether someone is a Twitch subscriber or a YouTube member.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an OBS plugin or a desktop app?
No. You paste a URL into the Browser source that ships with OBS. Use OBS 28.0 or later.
How do I make the poll overlay transparent?
It already is. The page has no background colour, so OBS alpha-composites it. Do not add a chroma key. If the background turns black, another source (a black colour source or a background image) is usually sitting underneath.
The overlay goes blank every time I switch scenes. Why?
“Shutdown source when not visible” or “Refresh browser when scene becomes active” is still on. With both off, the connection stays alive on other scenes and the latest numbers are there the moment you switch back.
Can viewers vote by typing in Twitch chat?
No — Livote does not count chat messages. Votes come in from the voting page on viewers’ phones. Post the join link in chat with “Copy for chat” in the console.
What does the overlay show if the connection drops mid-stream?
There is no error screen by design. The last frame stays up and a quiet “Reconnecting” appears in the corner; it recovers on its own once the connection is back.
